You can be involved in missions. Yes you!

August 8, 2017

The world's current population is 7.47 billion people, 3.16 billion of these people remain unreached. Unreached people groups are those that lack followers of Christ and resources to evangelise their own people. Friends, we can make a difference to these people's lives in so many ways. Below are six key ways we can be involved in missions, may the Holy Spirit inspire you on how you can be more involved in what He is doing around the world...

1. LEARN

Learning about God's heart for people, unreached people groups, community needs… as we learn and are exposed to new things, it provides opportunities for us to find new passions, places to make a difference and things to pray for.

This site is a GREAT place to start, it provides information on missions and unreached people groups https://joshuaproject.net

2. PRAY

Prayer isn’t a "nice sentiment" or a "religious tradition", prayer is conversation with God, declarations of His Word and intercession as God burdens us to pray. Prayer makes a difference and is a weapon to resist the work of the enemy.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. NIV

1 Timothy 2:1-2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. NIV

>>> NEXT MONTH we are going to have a focus on prayer! stay tuned!

3. GO

We can go long-term or short-term; using holiday or study leave, studying or doing overseas placements, going on team or solo trips, do stop over on another trip. There are so many ways to GO… be creative!

If you’re interested in going on a short-term trip, research options or feel free talk to myself or Graeme. Even if our church isn’t doing a trip that will work, there are many organisations that we can link you with that are doing incredible things across the world.

4. SEND

We may not always be able to travel overseas, but we can be a part of sending. Sending care packages to missionaries, financially supporting missionaries or a project, send birthday cards, emails, words of encouragement… we have many resources that we can creatively use to bless those working overseas or help others get overseas. What can you send that will be a blessing to a mission organisation, missionary or short term team?

5. WELCOME

There are many internationals in our own neighbourhood, we can love them by welcoming them in our neighbourhoods, families, homes and lives. Introduce yourself to someone new in your neighbourhood, have them over for dinner, start an English class for internationals at your church, volunteer at a refugee outreach.

James 2:14-17 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead. NIV

6. MOBILISE

The final key way we can be involved in missions is by being mobilised and mobilise others. Facilitate a fundraiser dinner, encourage friends to go on a short term missions trip, volunteer with a mission organisation, advocate for a people group or a cause, invite a missions-speaker or someone who has recently been overseas on missions to share in your church. Get involved in the work God is doing and encourage others too also!!

Let’s go, let’s get involved, let’s accept the invitation to be a part in what God is doing across the globe!
